Welcome to the website of

Shire Productions

home of theatre outdoors in the lovely surroundings of

The Shire Country Park

Shire Productions specialise in outdoor drama and have been involved with many annual weekends celebrating the life and work of J.R.R. Tolkien at Sarehole Mill, in Hall Green, Birmingham.

Members perform dramatic excerpts from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings at Sarehole Mill and Moseley Bog which are part of the Shire Country Park. They also staged an adaptation of Tolkien's Farmer Giles of Ham for the international gathering Tolkien 2005 at Aston University in Birmingham and The reduced Beowulf in the Bog.

Many current members were involved with an early production of  The Hobbit at Sarehole Mill in 1989, when the films were not even a twinkle in anyone's eye!

The drama group have appeared at The Middle-earth Weekend alongside the City Park Rangers, The Tolkien Society, craftspeople, poets, re-enactors, entertainers and local volunteer conservation groups, who all come toether to provide this free community event.
